Florence is gearing up to host not one but two of this year’s EAU scientific meetings and first up is the 20th Meeting of the EAU Robotic Urology Section. On 13-15 September, ERUS will host the world’s foremost robotic urology surgeons in the Italian city, with a scientific programme that demonstrates the wide range of applications for robotic surgery, as well as the wide range of the systems themselves.
ERUS chairman Dr. Alberto Breda (Barcelona, ES) promises delegates “three days totally dedicated to live surgery and key opinion leader talks on various topics including oncology, benign diseases and new technology applications for robotic surgery.”
Robotic live surgery
At the heart of every ERUS meeting is live demonstrations of robotic urological surgery, and this year the scientific programme features eight different sessions, with three screens offering viewers a wide range of procedures and systems to watch, both oncological and (increasingly) non-oncological.
Dr. Breda is pleased to reveal that four different robotic platforms, from Intuitive, Medtronic, Medicaroid, and Avatera, will be used for the (live) demonstrations. Noting the quick adoption of new systems, Dr. Breda points out that “for the first time, almost 40% of the surgeries will be performed with the Medtronic Hugo system.”
While most of the surgery will take place in Florence itself, some unique cases will come from abroad to ensure a wide variety of robotic platforms.
- Registration is currently open for ERUS23! The discounted late fee is available until 30 August
Scientific Programme
Aside from live surgery the meeting brings together all sorts of expertise, including the kind provided by the European School of Urology for its ESU courses. There is also a special one-day programme for young urologists at the Junior ERUS-YAU Meeting, held on the 15th. Separate registration for the Junior ERUS-YAU programme only is available, admission is otherwise included in a regular ERUS23 registration.
The programme will feature new “Head to Head” case discussions that will cover comparisons for large BPH and radical cystectomy with neobladder configuration. Expert roundtable discussions will address the latest on PCa and on re-do robotic surgery. A technology forum will give instrument manufacturers a chance to show off their latest innovations, as well as a peek at what’s in store in the near future.
Further international flavour will be provided in the shape of the “Europe meets America, NARUS-SRS Joint Session”. Dr. Breda: “we are joining forces with our American colleagues for this session. This is a very important point of consideration since there will be the possibility to exchange ideas and collaborate for new common projects.”
“As this is also the 20th anniversary of the ERUS meeting, I am particularly excited to welcome everybody to Florence, Italy’s capital of culture!”
Robotic Urology Nursing Meeting Joining the ERUS meeting this year, there will be a special ERUS-EAUN meeting in Florence on 13 September, 2023. The meeting will offer theoretical in-depth knowledge and will discuss many practical aspects that are important for nurses working in robot-assisted urology surgery. Limited places are also available for advanced hands-on training on Da Vinci Xi systems. Find out more about the separate registration here. |
